Damages To Your Automobile- Who Pays?
Your insurance company has an obligation to pay for any property damage to your vehicle. Often this can be covered under two different provisions of your policy. If you have full coverage which includes not only liability coverage but also comprehensive collision, your insurance company may ultimately be responsible for paying for the full damages that your vehicle sustained in the accident. Often, however, your insurance company will try to have the other driver’s insurance company pay for the property damage to your vehicle. While this is certainly allowed if the other driver was fully at fault for the accident, you should always keep in mind that your insurance company may also have an obligation to pay for the full damages to your vehicle under certain provisions of your policy. So while your insurance company may tell you that they are trying to help you in arranging for the other driver’s insurer to pay for your property damage, in fact they may be trying to get out of paying for the damage for which they could ultimately be responsible.
